The rapper “Fat Joe” was sentenced to four months in prison on Monday in New Jersey for failing to file federal income taxes.
The singer, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena, pleaded guilty in December 2012 after he withheld taxes on over $1 million of income in 2007 and 2008.
On Monday, Cartagena apologized to his family and fans for his criminal behavior before he was sentenced in a federal court in Newark.
U.S. Magistrate Cathy Waldor said she sentenced the defendant based on claim’s by the U.S. government that Cartagena evaded taxes on some $3 million of income between 2007 and 2010. His failure to pay income tax resulted in an estimated $718,038 lost in government tax income.
The artist lives in Miami Beach but he was prosecuted in New Jersey because some of the companies who paid his income were based in Somerville, N.J., which is located about 35 miles southwest of Newark.
The rapper was a platinum-selling artist who topped the Billboard charts with his single, “What’s Luv.”

Logic, who just recently inked a deal with Def Jam, releases his second video while on The Welcome To Forever Tour. He constantly keeps his fans updated with Day in the Life videos which you can find on youtube. Logic has grown tremendously since I first heard about him a little over a year ago and I am not surprised. This guy has a great work ethic and a good head on his shoulders, he is really passionate about his craft and takes the music serious. I personally like that even when he is attempting to make a more “commercial” song he does not turn down his lyrical content. Logic is currently on tour and you can catch him in a city near you very soon! For more info on Logic follow him on twitter at @logic301
Hip Hop savior Jon Connor leaks this new song featuring Paid Dues 2013 alumni Freddie Gibbz off his new album “Unconscious State” set to release July 2,2013. We had the opportunity to meet Jon Connor at SXSW 2012 and he actually gave us a cosign to get on Paid Dues. After listening to his last 2 mixtapes and following this mans movement we became big supporters of him and his music. For more info you can follow him at @JonConnorMusic
